How To Be Saved By Jesus

If you are confused about how to be saved by Jesus, you are not alone. God has a simple plan of salvation, but the act of turning one’s life over to divine control is not easy. The angels rejoice when a person takes this life-changing step, the Bible tells us. Eternal life is the consequence of this act of surrender.

The issue is accepting that a holy God cannot have a father-child relationship with a sinful person, and that all of us have sinned. This means that the person seeking salvation must first understand that God is holy. In the world, many things are relative and negotiable. However, the nature of God is not open to interpretation. God is holy; man is not.

Once a person accepts that there is such a thing as sin, that he or she is a sinner, and that there must be a consequence for sin, the stage is set. Man was created with free will. Adam and Eve were free to obey or disobey. Since the whole course of human history was changed by disobedience, free will is obviously very important to our God. We must give up or subordinate our free will to the sovereignty of God in a sincere decision.

The transaction is simple. We recognize our sinful state, ask for God’s forgiveness, and agree to turn our lives over to Him. This means that we accept His word as law in our lives. Anyone who continues to flout this law and live in sin has not made a sincere promise to God. One cannot be a child of God and continue to lie, cheat, steal, murder, and live in immorality.

People hate the whole idea of submission. However, if God made us, loves us, wants only the best for us, and is willing to work everything for our good, it seems ridiculous to quibble over the right to make our own bad decisions. Furthermore, even sincere Christians fail to submit all the time; this is why we have a continuous need for repentance and forgiveness.

Although we sin, this is not to be our expectation or excuse. God has promised to guide us, shine His light in the dark places, restore us, and be our constant helper. We still make mistakes, fail to understand our motives and situations, and fall short of a holy standard.

So how is an unsaved person different from a redeemed one? The redeemed of the Lord have acknowledged that they needed Jesus’s sacrifice as payment for their sins so they could have a relationship with the Father. A saved person has truly repented of sins, asked for forgiveness, and agreed to abide by God’s laws and live under His grace.

Why must Jesus be the payment for our sins? God set up a system of blood sacrifice to pay for sin, which carries the penalty of death. An innocent life given to redeem a sinful life, or in this case, one divine life paid for the sins of the whole world. Knowing how to be saved by Jesus requires self-knowledge, faith in God (who gives faith to those who ask for it), and a desire to know the Creator and His fatherly love and care.
